The U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies are searching for a man who went missing on western Lake Erie on Monday night.
35-year-old Brenton Burton was reported missing around 7:30 a.m. early today. He was expected to return Monday night after departing Halfway Marina around 9 a.m. Monday.
Search teams located an overturned boat just before 9 a.m. matching the description of Mr. Burton’s boat near Turtle Island, Ohio, and also found a gas can near Luna Pier. Erie Township Police confirmed the boat is registered to Mr. Burton. The man’s cell phone provider told authorities he last used his phone around 11:30 p.m. Monday.
A Coast Guard Station Toledo boat was launched, as well as an air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Toledo Fire Department, Frenchtown Fire Department, and the Jerusalem Township dive team are also assisting in the search.
