FREMONT — A Flat Rock, Ohio, man was killed Friday evening when his car was struck by a pickup truck that had been behind him when he slowed and turned into a private driveway on Hayes Avenue in Ballville Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol reported.

Richard Black, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene following the 8:40 p.m. collision near Third Street.

A passenger in his car, Kim Davidson, 61, of Fremont, suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, troopers from the patrol’s Fremont post said. She was listed in fair condition there Saturday afternoon.

Pickup driver John Wynn, 72, of Indianapolis was taken to Fremont Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said.

According to the report, both vehicles were westbound on Hayes when Mr. Black turned left into the private drive and the Wynn vehicle hit his car in the side. 

Troopers said both vehicles sustained severe damage and that alcohol and drugs were believed to be a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation Saturday evening.
