A fatal shooting that occurred early today in central Toledo was a homicide, authorities said.
Bobby Gittens, 28, of Toledo, was pronounced dead early in the morning at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center. He died of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and his death was ruled a homicide, Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Maneesha Pandey, who did the autopsy, said.
Toledo officers responded to North Detroit and Highland avenues at 12:52 a.m. for a report of a person shot, according to a statement from the department.
Police approaching the scene stopped a vehicle leaving the area and found a passenger suffering from gunshot wounds.
His death is the 22nd homicide in Toledo and the 25th in the metro area this year.
