Car drives into fitness center, catches fire

An LA Fitness center was evacuated for roughly 45 minutes today after a man drove his SUV into the building.

At about 6:40 p.m., a vehicle was reported to have crashed into the gym building at 2859 N. Holland Sylvania Rd. Sylvania Township Fire Chief Jeffrey Kowalski said the SUV side-swiped a parked vehicle before striking the gym building and catching fire.

Sylvania Township police Sgt. Brian Marsh said the driver told him he blacked out before crashing into the wall. He declined to provide the driver’s name.
