Erie Steel Inc. building evacuated because of fire

No injuries have been reported

A fire at Erie Steel Treating Inc. resulted in the evacuation of about 20 employees Wednesday evening in West Toledo due to an electrical fire on top of the roof.

At roughly 5:10 p.m., firefighters were called to the scene at 5540 Jackman Rd. Toledo Fire Department Deputy Chief John Kaminski said about 20 employees were evacuated while firefighters blocked off the surrounding area.

The fire on the roof was contained before damage could be done to the inside of the building, he said, adding the damage was minimum despite the large quantity of smoke emitting from the structure when firefighters arrived.

The fire was extinguished by about 5:55 p.m. Employees were allowed back inside the building before 6:30 p.m., Mr. Kaminski said.

No injuries were reported and it’s unknown at this time what the cost will be for the damages.
