Nebraska Avenue remains closed after morning fire

A house fire early today closed Nebraska Avenue in central Toledo, tying up the morning rush-hour traffic, authorities said.

The house was vacant, according to the Toledo fire department. There were no reported injuries.

Fire crews responded to the fire at a single-story, wood frame house at 856 Nebraska about 6:45 a.m., a fire dispatcher said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by about 7:40 a.m., at which time the street remained closed, fire and police authorities said.

The Lucas County Auditor’s website lists Gerald Riley as the owner of the house. It was built in 1902.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
