PORT CLINTON — One person is dead and two others injured after a trailer caught fire in Port Clinton this morning.
Erie Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tom Kellogg said he walked outside from the station at about 9:40 a.m. when he saw smoke billowing roughly 400 feet away from a trailer at 130 N. Monroe St. in Larcane.
“It was fully involved by the time we were out of the station and down the street,” Chief Kellogg said, adding the structure is a total loss.
He said a man and woman believed to be older than 60 were found outside of the trailer and taken to Magruder Hospital for minor to moderate burns. Crews were unable to go into the trailer and retrieve a man who was still inside due to the heavy flames and a collapsing roof, according to a press release.
After the fire was extinguished, the man’s remains were found, but he was too badly burned to positively identify him, Chief Kellogg said. He added a coroner is expected to perform an autopsy in a few days.
A fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, which is believed to be an accidental stove fire.
