ERIE TOWNSHIP — An Erie, Mich. woman died at a Toledo hospital Friday evening after she crashed her car into the North Maumee Bay, officials said.
Jill M. Towbridge, 52, was transported by ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where she died at approximately 10:23 p.m., according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Mrs. Towbridge was driving a Ford Focus southbound on Summit Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday, the sheriff’s office reported. Mrs. Towbridge’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the west, re-entered the road, and then crossed all five lanes of travel.
The vehicle ran off the east side of the road, overturned and crashed into the North Maumee Bay.
A member of the Morin Point Fire Department was able to free Mrs. Trowbridge from her vehicle and bring her to shore, the sheriff’s office reported.
Mrs. Towbridge was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, but it is unknown if alcohol is a factor.
The crash remains under investigation. Those with information should call 734-240-7711.
