At least 15 people are displaced because of an early morning apartment fire in South Toledo.
The blaze was reported at about 3:19 a.m. today at a a complex at Parkside Apartments at 1350 Brookview Drive — off Airport Highway — according to Toledo Fire spokesman Pvt. Sterling Rahe.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Four apartments were involved in the actual fire while 15 total apartments were affected — including water and smoke damage — out of the 40 units in the complex, Private Rahe said.
The Red Cross Toledo Chapter is assisting those residence who were displaced.
Doug Fee, disaster program manager of the Red Cross Toledo Chapter, said cases are still being entered from today’s fire, but there are approximately 15 to 20 people receiving assistance. Mr. Fee believed all of the residents are adults.
They are receiving food, water, and shelter while working with the community referral system, Mr. Fee said.
He added the utilities for the apartments on Brookview Drive were shut off today for a few hours, but those people did not receive assistance.
A firefighter injured his knee while battling the blaze, Private Rahe said.
There were no civilian injuries.
The fire caused about $550,000 in damage, Private Rahe said.
