HOLIDAY CITY, Ohio – One motorist is dead and the Ohio Turnpike’s westbound lanes were closed this afternoon because of a crash.
Troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Swanton post report the fatal crash occurred about 11:39 a.m. near Williams County Road 16.
Officials said Bruce Wichenbach, 68, of Waldoboro, Maine, was killed when his westbound tractor-trailer went off the right side of the road and struck another truck parked on the shoulder, then hit a guardrail and overturned.
The stopped truck’s driver, Richard Taylor, 57, of Harrisburg, Pa., was not injured, nor was Jeffrey Reinkemeyer, 51, of Helenville, Wis., who swerved to avoid debris from the crash and struck the median.
As of 3:40 p.m., officials said the turnpike’s westbound lanes have reopened.
