Fire crews battled early morning blaze in South Toledo

All five occupants of the home, two adults and three children, escaped

A family of five escaped unharmed from a house fire on Hill Avenue in South Toledo early today.

Firefighters from Station 4 on Hill Avenue and a rescue unit from the station in Ottawa Hills responded to reports of heavy flames at 5342 Hill at 1:50 a.m.

Red Cross was called to assist the family of two adults and three children. Initial damage estimates were between $45,000 and $50,000.

The emergency response was completed at 4:50 a.m., according to fire department dispatchers. The house is owned by Ting Wing Cheng, according to the Lucas County Auditor’s website. The cause was not immediately known.
