Sandusky man killed in crash

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Steven W. Yontz, 56, who was driving, was pronounced dead at the scene in Erie County’s Milan Township, according to a statement by the patrol’s Sandusky post. Mr. Yontz was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Mr. Yontz was driving a sport utility vehicle north on U.S. 250 just south of Scheid Road about 11:50 a.m. when he drove across the center line, crossed the southbound lanes, and drove off the west side of the highway and into a ditch, according to the statement. The vehicle then struck the right-of-way fence and a utility pole, shearing it off its base before coming to rest.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the statement.

The crash remains under investigation.
