Ms. Coley told Da’Quan Jordan, 21, she was going to get him sick with a cold. He just laughed.

“I told him I loved him and to be safe,” Ms. Coley, 23, of the 3500 block of Hilltop Boulevard said. “That was the last time I’d seen him.”
A person at an apartment complex in the 5400 block of Dorr Street found Mr. Jordan’s body in the back parking lot at approximately 7:50 a.m. Saturday, according to Toledo police.
The person who called police told the dispatcher Mr. Jordan looked like he was sleeping on the ground near a vehicle. He wasn’t even wearing socks, according to a 911 recording provided to The Blade.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ms. Coley said she received a call from Mr. Jordan’s brother around 9:30 a.m. Saturday saying her boyfriend had been fatally shot.
She didn’t believe it. She called Mr. Jordan, but he didn’t pick up.
“He always answered the phone. I thought maybe he was just asleep somewhere or had a fun night and was still asleep. Maybe that’s why he didn’t answer,” she said.
Ms. Coley then called Mr. Jordan’s sister. All she could hear were screams.
“I knew then and there it was real,” Ms. Coley said.
When found he had been lying on the ground for several hours, said Dr. Diane Barnett, Lucas County chief deputy coroner.
Dr. Jeffrey Hudson, a deputy coroner at the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, said Tuesday Mr. Jordan died of a single gunshot wound to the back. It was ruled a homicide.
It’s believed the incident may have happened between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., officials said.
The shot was considered to be close-range, and a bullet was recovered and turned over to Toledo police, said Dr. Hudson.
Ms. Coley said she does not know what Mr. Jordan was doing that night.
She added Mr. Jordan’s family is having a difficult time with his death, and he was particularly close with his sister and grandmother.
Ms. Coley said her boyfriend was a family man. He took Ms. Coley’s daughter, Kyla, 4, as his own. The couple recently had a baby boy, Da’Nero, who turns 5 months old next week.
“He loved his kids, anything he did, he did for his kids and his family,” Ms. Coley said.
The couple frequently talked about getting married, and Ms. Coley said Mr. Jordan recently asked her father for her hand in marriage.
“He was just really charming, he was a sweetheart,” Ms. Coley said. “He thought the world of me. That made me like him so much.”
Police are investigating all angles of the shooting, though they have not provided a motive for the incident. Mr. Jordan referenced multiple guns and drugs on his public Facebook page.
“Part of the investigating is determining when he went outside and for what purpose and how long he was lying there,” Toledo Police Department spokesman Sgt. Kevan Toney said Tuesday.
As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection to the death.
