Three charged with arson-related charges

Three charged with arson-related charges

Two women are charged for separate arson-related offenses. 

An East Toledo woman is accused of setting fire to a detached garage in North Toledo. 

Mayshyia A. Davis, 31, of the 500 block of Arden Place, is charged with arson, a fourth-degree felony.

She is accused of setting a detached garage ablaze Friday, according to documents filed in Toledo Municipal Court. The garage, located in the 2900 block of Elm Street, was destroyed, along with a vehicle inside. 

A witness told police she saw Ms. Davis outside the garage prior to the fire starting. A description of Ms. Davis was provided, and she was later located, according to a Toledo police report. 

She was arrested by Toledo Police Sunday and she was booked in the Lucas County jail, according to jail records. 

Ms. Davis was arraigned Monday in Toledo Municipal Court, where bond was set at $25,000 at no percent.

She is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing April 23. 

Separately, a man and woman are charged with setting fire to a central city home for the purpose of collecting insurance money, according to court documents.

Aimee L. Jankowski, 38, of the 800 block of Geneva Avenue, and Artis Layson, 35, of the 3000 block of Parkwood Avenue, are charged in connection to the Aug. 16 fire at the Parkwood Avenue residence. 

Ms. Jankowski is charged with is charged with three counts of aggravated arson, both first and second-degree felonies, and one count of insurance fraud, a third-degree felony. Mr. Layson is charged with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony. 

They’re each responsible for the aggravated arson fire that occurred at the residence for the purpose of collecting insurance money, according to court documents

She was arrested by Toledo police Friday and she was booked in the Lucas County jail. She was later released on a recognizance bond Saturday. 

She was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court Monday, and her recognizance bond was continued. She is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on May 10. 

Mr. Layson has not been arrested, according to records. 

It was not immediately specified how either fire was started.
