Search crews located an elderly woman in a bedroom on the second floor, Private Rahe said. The woman, Emma Floyd, 80, was transported to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, where she later died.
A second person at the home, a man, was outside when crews arrived, Private Rahe said, and he was transported to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
Fire crews on Thursday morning threw debris out of a second-story window, as they searched for a cause of the fire. The blaze began in the back of the house on the second floor, and Private Rahe said most of the damage was confined to the upstairs.
When crews arrived, smoke detectors inside the home were going off, he said.
