The Lucas County Board of Elections voted Tuesday to fire elections manager Hans Schnapp.
Also Tuesday, the board voted to post publicly the positions of director and deputy director.
The 4-0 vote followed a 30-minute executive session. Board Chairman Brenda Hill said Mr. Schnapp was terminated for “unsatisfactory performance issues,” and provided no other details.
Mr. Schnapp, former manager of a photocopying business and an unsuccessful Republican Toledo City Council candidate in 2011, was hired in April, 2012, and was paid $61,732.58. Mr. Schnapp is secretary of the Lucas County Republican Party executive committee.
Director Gina Kaczala and Deputy Director LaVera Scott have been on an interim status since June when Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted removed three existing board members for mismanagement of the elections department.
The board voted to publicize the job openings Feb. 6-17, and accept applications until Feb. 20.
Ms. Kaczala and Ms. Scott will apply to remain in their jobs, Ms. Kaczala said.
