The Lucas County Republican Party has recommended James Hartley of Sylvania, a certified association executive, to a Republican seat on the Lucas County Board of Elections.
Mr. Hartley, 62, was approved unanimously Wednesday night by the party’s executive committee. The vote came after the party’s first choice, Ottawa Hills attorney Mark Davis, was rejected by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.
Mr. Hartley, if appointed by Mr. Husted, would replace Mark Wagoner Sr., whose seat expires at the end of this month.
According to Mr. Hartley’s resume, he has experience in senior management, member and board relations, and strategic planning. He has served as executive vice president of the National Exchange Club, executive director of the Ohio Society of Association Executives, and vice president for membership and technology, for the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Husted on Monday cited a public reprimand and a $5,000 fine imposed in 2011 by a disciplinary arm of the Ohio Supreme Court against Mr. Davis as a reason to reject his appointment to the four-person board that runs elections in Lucas County.
