INDIANAPOLIS — Kyle Bonis scored the tying and game-winning goals Saturday, propelling the Toledo Walleye past the Indy Fuel 4-3 in overtime at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
With the victory, the Walleye (45-15-5) won their third consecutive game on a four-game road trip, and stayed atop the ECHL overall standings, the Western Conference, and the Central Division with 95 points.
Toledo gained ground on Florida and Fort Wayne in the race, as both teams lost. Florida (43-13-6), who leads the Eastern Conference standings, now is three points behind. Fort Wayne (42-17-4), who is second in the Western Conference and the Central Division, is now seven points down.
Bonis tied the game at 3 with just 1 minute, 19 seconds remaining in regulation, on an assist by Mike Embach.
Bonis then converted his 24th of the season just 16 seconds into the extra period, as Tyler Barnes and Ryan Obuchowski had the assists.
Bonis finished with a three-point night, as did Barnes.
Pat Nagle tallied 28 saves to improve to 32-4-4 on the campaign.
The Fuel (30-29-4), who have lost two consecutive games, took a 3-0 lead after the first period. Ryan Rupert scored two of the goals.
Matt Tomkins made 37 saves in the loss to fall to 11-9-1 on the season.
Toledo will face Cincinnati at U.S. Bank Arena at 3 p.m. Sunday.
