Breakfast prayers
The Lucas County Human Trafficking Coalition will host its first multifaith prayer breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon today at the UAW Hall, 2300 Ashland Ave.
Leaders of faith communities will give public prayers for awareness of human trafficking, fighting the crime, and helping people who have been subjected to trafficking. The prayer panel will include Baptist, Catholic, Islamic, nondenominational, and Unitarian Universalist faith leaders. The Rev. Charles Campbell of Lutheran Church of the Master in Perrysburg will be the featured speaker. Resources will be available for further information. Admission is free.
Manna in Maumee
The Rev. Perry Stone, an evangelist in the Church of God of Cleveland, Tenn., and host of the Christian television show Manna-fest, will be the speaker at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Church on Strayer, 3000 Strayer Rd., Maumee. There is no charge for admission. Pastor Stone spent four years writing the commentary for all 66 books of the forthcoming Hebraic-Prophetic Study Bible, intended for publication later this year or in 2017.
Dinner with friends
For one night a year, the Friendship Circle Cafe opens to the public at Chabad House of Toledo, 2728 King Rd., serving dinner to benefit children and teens. At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the kids and youth will prepare the food, serve the meal, and operate the cafe. The cost is $6 for children and $8 for adults. Reserve a seat at chabadtoledo.com, then pay at the door.
Chabad’s Friendship Circle cares for children with autism and other special needs, and teenagers volunteer there as helpers.
Enns on the Bible
Sylvania United Church of Christ’s Chidester Lecture Series continues with Peter Enns, a biblical studies professor at Eastern University, St. Davids, Penn., whose work looks at the Bible in the context of contemporary Christian faith. He will give a lecture, “God Did What?! The Problem of Divine Violence in the Bible,” at 4 p.m. Jan. 30 at the church, 7240 Erie St., Sylvania; tickets are $15.
On Jan. 31, free events are a sermon at the 8:30 and 10:40 a.m. services on “Trusting God — No Matter What” and a 9:20 a.m. forum, “The Sin of Certainty: Why God Desires Our Trust More Than Our ‘Correct’ Beliefs,” all held at the church.
Mr. Enns is also an author, and his book The Bible Tells Me So: Why Defending Scripture Has Made Us Unable to Read It will be on sale for $12. He writes a blog called the Bible for Normal People at peteenns.com.
Leaders breakfast
From 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 1, the MultiFaith Council of Northwest Ohio will have a breakfast for clergy and other community members involved in outreach. In honor of World Interfaith Harmony Week, the topic is “Reaching Out to Other Faiths.” The session will be held at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, 25877 Scheider Rd., Perrysburg, and a Lebanese continental breakfast buffet will be provided. Admission is free.

Coat collection
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Toledo has become a partner with Art Van Furniture in Operation Coat Check, a campaign to collect donations of new and “gently used” coats and jackets.
Through Feb. 11, the Art Van stores at 10300 W. State Rt. 224, Findlay; 22225 State Rt. 51 W., Genoa; and 1301 E. Mall Dr., Holland, will serve as drop-off points for the clothing. St. Vincent de Paul will coordinate distribution of the coats to people in need.
