SANDUSKY — Cedar Fair said today it set a new revenue record on its way to a $175 million profit in the year’s third quarter. The company also announced a 4 percent increase in its quarterly dividend.
The company, which operates Cedar Point and a string of amusement and water parks across the country, said third quarter revenues were up about 1 percent to $650 million. The $175 million profit translates to $3.10 a share. In 2015, Cedar Fair earned $164 million or $2.92 a share.
The third quarter — prime summer vacation time — is especially important for Cedar Fair, and officials said they were pleased with the results.
“We believe our strategy of getting families to our parks early in the season and getting them to return often will result in our seventh consecutive year of record results, including record attendance, record guest spending and record cash flows,” Matt Ouimet, Cedar Fair’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.
Although the full financial results released today run through the end of August, officials provided updates through the end of October. Through the year’s first 10 months attendance was up 2 percent, while per-patron in-park spending rose 1 percent. The company reported a 6 percent increase in out-of-park revenue, a category that includes accommodations at Cedar Fair’s hotels.
Overall, 10 month revenues were up 4 percent, the company said.
