Lake Erie Legislative Caucus meeting to focus on algae

COLUMBUS — The Lake Erie Legislative Caucus will host a special meeting on Aug. 15 to discuss algae and the recent northwest Ohio water crisis.

The meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Maumee Bay State Park, will offer members of the public the “opportunity to make presentations and testify before the caucus,” according to a news release. Officials from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will also be invited to speak.

The meeting will be hosted by state Sen. Randy Gardner (R., Bowling Green) and state Rep. Chris Redfern (D., Catawba Island), who are two of the four co-chairs for the caucus.

“We believe the discussion and work toward solving the algae crisis facing Lake Erie must be elevated to a new level,” Mr. Gardner said in a statement.
