3rd man to be exonerated in 1975 Cleveland slaying

CLEVELAND  — The last of three men convicted and sentenced to death in the 1975 slaying of an Ohio businessman is scheduled to have his charges dismissed.

Ronnie Bridgeman, now known as Kwame Ajamu, was 17 when he was convicted in the shooting death of Harry Franks outside a Cleveland corner store. Ajamu was released from prison in January 2003 after 27 years behind bars. His brother, Wylie Bridgeman, and their best friend from the neighborhood, Ricky Jackson, were released from prison late last month after serving nearly 40 years.

Ajamu was expected to have the charges dismissed at a court hearing today.

The case against the three men fell apart when a boy who was the prosecutor’s star witness recanted his testimony last year.
