Ohio Gov. John Kasich will have to share attention and headlines with the Ohio State Buckeyes football team as he begins his second term, but that’s fine with him.
Following his official-swearing in and inaugural address earlier on Jan. 12, the Republican’s black-tie, invitation-only gala at 8 that evening will coincide with Ohio State squaring off against the Oregon Ducks in the national championship game.
“So our inaugural gala on the 12th will be more of a game watching party. I don’t mind. #GoBucks,” the OSU alumnus said in a tweet early yesterday as the Buckeyes upset Alabama to advance to the title game.
Kasich’s inaugural committee will have big-screen TVs on hand during his party at the Downtown Columbus Hilton to ensure guests can follow the big game.
The governor and Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor will begin their second four years early Jan. 12 with a swearing-in ceremony in Senate chambers at the Statehouse. Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor will administer the oath.
