Toledo Police Sgt. Kevin Braun is one of 14 contestants in the new ABC reality series, The Glass House, premiering at 10 p.m. June 18, and seen locally on WTVG-TV, Channel 13.

Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan confirmed that Braun will be taking leave to appear in the Los Angeles-based show. Braun has been with the department since December, 1998.

The reality show is built on a similar concept to CBS's long-running Big Brother series as voyeuristic viewers are given near-complete access to the lives of the contestants, and will help shape the contestants' daily life as well as determine who remains in the game. Players will be voted off the show, and the winner will receive a $250,000 prize. Among the other contestants are a bail bondsman, a scientist, and a bar mitzvah DJ.

CBS, however, is seeking an injunction blocking the airing of Glass House, alleging it violates copyrights and trade secrets from Big Brother. ABC has denied wrongdoing, saying the two shows have numerous differences. A date for the injunction hearing has yet to be scheduled.

According to his biography posted on the ABC Web site for the new show, Braun is a 33-year-old father from Walbridge with a 15-year-old daughter named Samara. Braun said he's spent 12 years with the Toledo Police Department.

"Six of those years were spent as a detective with the Vice/Narcotics Unit, though I now work as a supervisor in Field Operations [patrol]," hisbio reads. "Before becoming a police officer I worked as a pizza maker, shoe salesman, and even a 911 call taker. My work history has provided me with many unique and interesting experiences, which I'm sure will come in handy while competing in The Glass House."

The bio also states that Braun attends classes at "a local university and [I] expect to have my degree in criminal justice sometime early next year."
