The University of Toledo baseball team saw its season come to an end with a 6-1 defeat to Eastern Michigan on Friday in Avon, Ohio.
The Rockets finish the season 19-38-1.
Augie Gallardo pitched a complete game for Eastern Michigan and held the Rockets to five hits.
No. 5 seed UT and No. 8 seed EMU were scoreless through three innings. John Montgomery gave the Eagles (22-35) the lead with a two-run home run in the fourth, and they added to their advantage in each of the next two innings.
Austin Wilson’s RBI single in the fifth gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead, then Montgomery struck with an RBI double in the sixth.
Casey Johnson walked in a run with the bases loaded to give EMU a 5-0 lead. UT starter Sam Shutes allowed five earned runs on eight hits in 5 ⅓ innings, striking out three and walking two.
The Rockets managed their only run in the seventh, when Matt Hansen plated AJ Montoya with a sacrifice fly.
Eastern Michigan will advance to play top-seeded Kent State today in Avon.
