Storm's Magowan an all-star

Storm's Magowan an all-star

Storm left winger Ken Magowan has been on fire lately and the veteran forward was rewarded with a spot on the ECHL all-star team yesterday.

Magowan was picked to replace injured forward Andrew Martin on the roster. Martin, a 23-year-old rookie, had collected 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) and was named to the all-star team last month before he was sidelined with a groin injury.

Magowan scored three goals and had an assist in three games last week. He leads the team with 13 goals and 10 assists. Magowan has a team-high, plus-minus rating of plus-4 and has three shorthanded goals, which ranks third in the league.

The 25-year-old native of Kelowna, B.C., was picked in the seventh round of the 2000 NHL draft by the New Jersey Devils.

Magowan started his pro career with Augusta in 2004-05 before coming to Toledo last year. He finished fourth on the team in points with 27 goals and 30 assists. In 195 professional games, Magowan has collected 65 goals and 73 assists.

Magowan will join Storm rookie right winger Jamie Tardif at the 15th Annual ECHL All-Star Game which will be held on Wednesday in Boise. Tardif is ranked fourth among rookies with 27 points (9 G, 18 A).

Before the all-star break, the Storm travels to Cincinnati to take on the Cyclones tonight and faces Wheeling on the road tomorrow night.

The Storm (16-15-1) has slipped to fifth place in the seven-team ECHL North Division. The team has lost four of its last five games and has the second-worst road record (3-10-1) in the ECHL.

Toledo is 3-4-0 against the Cyclones, including a 4-3 loss last Sunday at the Sports Arena.

The Storm is 0-3-0 against Cincinnati at U.S. Bank Arena. But Tardif has played well against the Cyclones this year, tallying three goals along with three assists.
