Way cleared for start of hydrogen pipeline
COLUMBUS - A proposed 12-inch hydrogen gas pipeline in Lucas County received approval yesterday from the Ohio Power Siting Board, clearing the way for construction to start next month.
Buckeye Gulf Coast Pipe Lines LP will own and operate the 3.6-mile pipeline that will connect a hydrogen plant at the Sunoco refinery on the Toledo-Oregon border to the BP North America refineries in Oregon. BP will use the hydrogen in a sulfur-removal process to meet 2006 federal low-sulfur fuel standards.
Construction is expected to start next month and be completed by Aug. 1. The project will cost about $9.8 million.
