Columbus pair arrested in phony ID card case
LIMA, Ohio — Two Columbus men have been arrested and charged with making and selling phony Social Security and permanent resident cards.
Maximino Alonso Gomez, 24, and Alfonso Alonso Gomez, 21, are being held in the Allen County jail on $50,000 bonds each. Both men were arrested Wednesday night by sheriff’s deputies in the parking lot of a restaurant Neubrecht Road in Lima. They are scheduled for preliminary hearings Monday on single charges of tampering with records, a third-degree felony. In a statement, Sheriff Dan Beck said the two men, whom he described as foreign nationals, produced and sold five bogus Social Security cards and five fake permanent resident cards.
“These subjects were also in possession of numerous other fraudulent documents,” the sheriff said.
“These documents appear to be of high quality and would have allowed illegal aliens to remain in this country under false pretenses.”
