2 gifts to UT totaling $1M earmarked for 2 funds
A pair of gifts totaling $1 million will enable the University of Toledo to support students and faculty participating in medical missions abroad and open a permanent hall of fame honoring those who have improved health worldwide, the university announced yesterday.
Lawrence V. Conway, UT professor emeritus of finance, provided $500,000.
Dr. Glenn Geelhoed, professor of surgery, international medical education, microbiology, immunology, and tropical medicine at George Washington University Medical Center, matched the gift. He will receive an honorary doctor of science degree today from UT during its fall commencement.
A 2004 donation by Mr. Conway established the hall of fame, but it existed without an actual home as it inducted new members, including Dr. Geelhoed. Yesterday’s gifts will pay for the hall of fame’s installation in the lobby of the Center for Creative Education on UT’s health science campus.
