20 North shows scenes of Spain

"Spanish Seduction" a new set of large-scale paintings by Steven Conine, will be on display tomorrow through March 30 in 20 North Gallery, 18 North Saint Clair St. Conine created the works while he was living in Spain during 2005 and 2006, An opening reception with the artist will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Information: 419-241-2400.

An exhibit entitled "All Creatures Great and Small" is on display through March 29 in the Toledo Artists' Club gallery in Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr. Show winners are Nora Blair, best of show; Monica Birsen, first place; Paul Kolasinski, second place; and Beverly Chudey, third place. Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Information: 419-531-4079.

Space 237, 237 North Michigan St., presents the "Annual Elementary School Children's Art Exhibit" Tuesday through March 17. Art from students in Toledo Public Schools and Elizabeth's Art House will be on display. An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. March 9. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Information: 419-255-5117.

"Colorissimo!" an exhibit by Marcia Derse and Ann Tubbs, featuring bright fabrics along with sparkling ceramic works, will open Saturday and run through March in the American Gallery, 6600 Sylvania Ave, Sylvania. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Saturday. Information: 419-882-8949.

Kismet Gallery, 5627 Main St., Sylvania, will be hosting "Heavy Metal," new works by sculptor Kenneth M. Thompson, March 9-31. Thompson's sculptures hang off the edges or are placed in awkward positions on long-legged Parson tables. A opening wine reception we be held from 7 to 9 p.m. March 9. Information: 419-872-3321.

The Perrysburg Art Club is offering a beginning watercolor workshop with artist Nancy Wiser from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 7and 21 in the Commodore Building cafeteria, 140 East Indiana Ave. The workshop is $10 per session for nonmembers and free for club members. Information: 419-873-2787.

"Meandering Threads," an exhibit of fiber art and Haiku poetry of Sharon Hammer Baker, will be on display in the library of Owens Community College's Findlay campus, 300 Davis Street, Findlay, Monday through April 4. A reception and gallery talk with Baker will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Library hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Eastern Michigan University presents "Michigan Collects Ruth Weisberg" a 40-year retrospective of the work of the painter and printmaker. The show runs March 12 through April 27 in the University Art Gallery of the Student Center, 900 Oakwood, Ypsilanti. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. March 12, followed by an artist lecture by Weisberg. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Information: 734-487-0465.
