A 2-year-old girl in a stroller was bitten in the face by a pit bull Thursday night while she and her parents were walking down a street in West Toledo, authorities said.
Samantha Hiley of West Toledo was treated in Toledo Hospital.
She and her parents were in the 3200 block of St. Bernard Drive near Giant Street about 7:50 p.m. when the adult dog jumped a fence, raced toward the girl, and grabbed her by the face, authorities said.
The dog, a female pit bull named Kilo, was surrendered to a Lucas County dog warden’s deputy called to the scene by police, said Tom Skeldon, the county dog warden.
Jeff Mortemore, who gave up the dog, said he had stepped outside to hook up the dog when it broke free and ran for the girl. He said the dog is owned by his 22-year-old son, Justin, Mr. Skeldon said.
The dog, which was licensed, will be held in quarantine for 10 days. Afterward, if the owner does not claim it, the dog will be euthanized. The owner could face charges, including improper confinement of a dog, Mr. Skeldon said.
