Fremont man killed in accident involving snow plow

OAK HARBOR — A Fremont man was killed Wednesday morning when his car started sliding on Salem-Carroll Road and collided with an Ottawa County snow plow north of Oak Harbor in Ottawa County’s Carroll Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

William Federico, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers with the patrol’s Sandusky post said.

Mr. Federico was eastbound on Salem-Carroll west of Carroll-Erie Road just before 6 a.m. when his car began sliding back and forth and crossed the center line into the path of the westbound dump truck that was removing snow and salting the roadway, troopers said.

The plow truck, which was being driven by Kurtis Lenke, 30, of Oak Harbor, struck the right side of the car, troopers said.

Mr. Lenke was not hurt in the crash.

Both men were wearing seat belts, troopers said.
