McConnell Hancock found guilty of making a false alarm; agrees to give up her law license

Karyn McConnell Hancock was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Toledo Municipal Court and was found guilty of a misdemeanor charge of making false alarms.
She will be sentenced on March 19th and could face up to six months in jail. Ms. McConnell Hancock also signed a letter stating she is resigning as an attorney that will be presented to the Ohio Supreme Court, said her attorney Jerry Phillips.
She left the courtroom holding her husband’s hand. The couple did not speak to the media.
Ms. McConnell Hancock, who admitted to faking her own kidnapping last month, was arraigned before retired Hardin County Judge David Faulkner. He and visiting Prosecutor Michael Shiels from Springfield, Ohio, are handling the case because Ms. McConnell Hancock’s father, C. Allen McConnell, is a judge in the municipal court.
Ms. McConnell Hancock was reported missing by her husband Dec. 5 after she failed to pick up their son at day care. She turned up in Atlanta three days later, told police she had been kidnapped, and later admitted she had lied.
This was the third scheduled date for Ms. McConnell Hancock’s arraignment.
In separate case in Lucas County Probate Court, a consent entry was filed Tuesday afternoon against Ms. McConnell Hancock saying that she embezzled more than $130,000 from the estate of a murdered city of Toledo worker.
The entry also assessed her a 10 percent penalty of more than $13,000 as required by law.
