An explosion Thursday morning injured one worker at The Andersons grain elevator complex off of Illinois Avenue in Maumee.

An employee was doing repair work on the top of a railcar in the company’s rail shop when the contents of the car exploded about 9:20 a.m., said company spokesman Debbie Crow.

She said an internal investigation has been started to determine what the substance was and how the explosion occurred.

Ms. Crow declined to release the name of the injured worker or how long he had worked for The Andersons, but did say that co-workers summoned medical help immediately and he was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

She did say that The Andersons routinely does repair work on both company-owned cars and those owned by contractors but that she did not know if the car involved in the incident is owned by the company.
