Security guard foils robbery by masked men

A 7-Eleven security guard yesterday stopped an armed robbery at a North Toledo convenience store, police said.

Two masked men with guns entered the store at 3151 Lagrange St. about 2 a.m. yesterday and ordered the clerk to get on the floor, police said.

The guard, Fred Powell, approached the suspects from behind with his weapon drawn and ordered them to remove their masks, police said.

The assailants then ran out the door and Mr. Powell chased them down Lagrange toward Oakland Street.

Mr. Powell told police he thought the suspects fired their guns during the pursuit, so he fired a round in the air, a report said. No one has been arrested.
