FINDLAY — A bicyclist was killed in a crash that also involved two cars Monday night on icy and snowed-over Bright Road in the city, authorities said.
Benito Molina Jr., 56, of Findlay, the bicyclist who was trapped under one of the cars for a time, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Findlay police.
The crash occurred about 9:15 p.m. in the 2100 block of Bright.
Mr. Molina was riding a bicycle north on Bright, in the curb lane, when a car driven by Chelsey Peterson, 18, also of Findlay, started to catch up with him. Ms. Peterson saw the bicyclist at the last minute, braked hard, and swerved to the right to avoid collision. The car’s right front side struck the bicycle, knocking it and its rider to the pavement, police said.
Then another car driven behind the Peterson car by Amanda Wolford, 24, also of Findlay, swerved to the right to avoid collision, without seeing the bicycle or its rider. The Wolford car then struck the Peterson car in the rear and drove over the bicyclist and its rider, officers said.
Ms. Peterson and Ms. Wolford were not injured in the crash.
The road was icy and partially covered with blowing snow at the time of the accident, officers said.
The crash remained under investigation Tuesday morning.
