Maureen Fulton has covered Bowling Green State University sports and the Mud Hens for the Blade since April 2005. Before coming to Toledo, she worked at the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Omaha World-Herald. She grew up on Nebraska football and the College World Series but has learned to love pro football (if you feel comfortable classifying the Browns as such) and baseball since moving to Ohio.

Maureen provides news, analysis and perspective on the sports world. Anything, from breaking stories, Mud Hens transactions, pre-game gossip and post-game reaction, is fair game.

Point guard commits

Bob Sundvold returned again to his roots to secure a point guard for next year for the Toledo men's basketball team. It's Neil Watson, a point guard from Wyandotte, Kansas.
Watson, 5-foot-10, is averaging 18 points and six assists for Kansas City-area Sumner Academy (7-2) this year and was the Kansas City Kansas League preseason player of the year. Last year he averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 assists.
Watson was primarily recruited by Sundvold, who previously coached in Kansas City. Watson said he also considered Tulsa and Oral Roberts.
"I had a connection with coach Cross and coach Sundvold," Watson said. “They are more interested in me as a student and as a person then as a basketball player. They want me to succeed.”
Watson plans to sign with the Rockets in the late signing period in April, after which the coaching staff will be able to comment on him. UT signed three players in November and has two other scholarships remaining.
