2 Falcons headed for NFL

Former Bowling Green State University football players Diyral Briggs and Antonio Smith have signed free agent contracts with NFL teams. Briggs signed with the San Francisco 49ers and Smith will join the Cleveland Browns.

Briggs finished his career with 221 tackles, including 36 for loss and 26 sacks. His sack total ranks first in school history and eighth all-time in the Mid-American Conference.

The Mt. Healthy, Ohio, native, who was a first-team All-MAC selection as a junior and senior, led the conference with 9˝ sacks last year. His 13˝ tackles for loss ranked second in the MAC.

Smith, a four-year starter at defensive back, finished his career with 249 tackles, including 12 for loss and two sacks. He also had six interceptions, 26 pass breakups and five fumble recoveries. The Miami native led the MAC with 11 pass breakups last season.
