Maumee city officials have agreed to talk with Maumee Municipal Court representatives in an attempt to resolve a long-running dispute over computing employee vacation time.
Attorney Peter Silverman, who is representing the court, sent a letter to Maumee Mayor Tim Wagener July 31 asking that the city agree to mediate the dispute.
He said on Aug. 7 that he was contacted by City Law Director Sheilah McAdams, who said the city would be willing to talk.
"We're going to try to resolve it amicably through mediation," Mr. Silverman said.
The dispute dates to January when Ms. McAdams informed Municipal Court Judge Gary Byers that a recently hired probation officer could not use his years of service with other municipalities to compute his vacation time in Maumee.
In February, Judge Byers subpoenaed City Administrator John Jezak and Assistant Finance Director Linda Wilker into court to explain why the employee's vacation time was not adjusted as he'd requested. City officials contended it violated city rules, while the court has maintained that it had the authority to set its own rules.Although the disagreement was not resolved, Judge Byers later dismissed the contempt charges against the two officials.
Ms. McAdams could not be reached for comment.
