Maumee hosts annual Summer Fair

Maumee will rock tomorrow night and all day Saturday at its 32nd annual Summer Fair.

It's got the ingredients for a good time: a parade, lots of food, hot bands and a beer tent, classic cars, a kids' zone, and a talent show.

Lot Party Entertainment
Friday
5 p.m. — Kyle White
7 to 11 p.m. — Danger Brothers
Saturday
5 p.m. — Vital Signs
6:30 p.m. — Under the Covers
8 to 11 p.m. — East River Band

In addition, 160 vendors will sell arts and crafts of all kinds, and 18 restaurants ranging from Mediterranean, Mexican, and Chinese to pizza, wings, and burgers will take part in the Taste of Maumee, in its 10th year.

The homecoming has drawn about 18,000 people in previous years and up to 2,500 for the evening Lot Parties, said Brenda Clixby, fair director.

The action will line the sidewalks of Conant Street (which will be open to traffic), and a couple of side streets, notably in the 100 block of West Dudley Street in the West Mews parking lot.

New this year is a talent show with 32 entrants ranging from 6 to 18 years old (1 to 4 p.m. in the 100 block of West Dudley St.).

The Kids' Zone will feature inflatables for jumping, Euro bungee, games, and speed pitch, on West Dudley at Gibbs streets.

This year's parade theme is classic cartoons. It will step off at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Wolcott House on River Road and be cheered along its 2.7-mile route into downtown, ending at Union School.

The classic-car show is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Elks parking lot at Allen and West Wayne streets.

St. Luke's entertainment tent will stage music and dance between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Lot Party features high-energy music liable to incite dancing.

Admission to the beer tent is $5, but an all-ages, alcohol-free area with picnic tables is nearby.

The free fair is organized by the Maumee Uptown Business Association.

The Maumee Summer Fair is 5 to 11 p.m. tomorrow and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the beer fest area at the Lot Party is $5. Parking is available at the lot on Conant Street and the Anthony Wayne Trail, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 112 East Wayne St., and on nearby streets.
