Blade editor receives 3 awards for his work
Steve Pollick, The Blade's outdoors editor, has received three awards from the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers for his writing in 2008 and 2009.
Mr. Pollick was awarded first place in open newspaper competition for a series titled "Going Wild," March 1-3, about his solo experience in winter wilderness in the Porcupine Mountains of the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The award also recognized an electronic package of the series and 23-slide photo gallery that appears at toledoblade.com/goingwild.
The editor was awarded first place in newspaper outdoors pages or sections for "Side Cut Sam's Legacy," a story about a huge buck and antler development in white-tailed deer, which appeared in Toledo Magazine on Sept. 28, 2008.
He also earned a second-place award in newspaper columns on hunting for "Bowhunter Shares a Lesson in Ethics," which also appeared Sept. 28.
The awards were presented Tuesday at a luncheon during AGLOW's annual conference, held this year at Gaylord, Mich.
