Man dies when car drives into pond near Bradner

BRADNER, Ohio — A rural Portage, Ohio, man was killed when a car he was in drove into a pond Sunday night west of this Wood County community, authorities said.

Larry Sabo, 51, who was trapped in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Wood County Sheriff's office.

Mr. Sabo was a rear-seat passenger in a car driven by Lana Rose, 46, of rural Wayne, Ohio, who also had a front-seat passenger, Dale Rose, Jr., 52, also of rural Wayne. The driver and the front-seat passenger escaped unhurt, sheriff's deputies said.

The car was northbound on private property in Montgomery Township off Wayne Road, in the 11300 block, about 10:10 p.m. when the driver failed to see the pond and drove into it, sheriff deputies said.

The car got submerged, trapping Mr. Sabo. Two Wayne firefighters later went into the water and pulled Mr. Sabo from the vehicle. Attempts to resuscitate him failed, deputies said.

The incident remained under investigation.

Bradner is about 20 miles southeast of Toledo.
