Man injured in West Toledo bar shooting
BLADE STAFF
A man was injured overnight in another West Toledo bar shooting.
As police continue to investigate a wild shooting at the Route 66 bar just before midnight Thursday, there was another bar shooting just before midnight on Tuesday.
Billy Joe Hicks, 33, of 12 East Park St., was in Malibu's, 2045 West Alexis Rd., when he got into an argument over a poker game, pulled out a handgun, and fired a shot.
The bullet apparently hit the floor and ricocheted to graze Thomas Phillips, of West Toledo who works at the bar, in the right forearm.
Mr. Hicks was arrested shortly after the incident at a sports bar across the street, police said.
He was charged with felonious assault and is being held in the Lucas County jail.
There was a minor injury in this incident of a single gunman, but the Route 66 shootout that has received national attention included a volley of bullets and no injuries.
Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner has called for the closing of the Route 66 Bar and Grill, 406 North Westwood Ave., after police said at least 20 shots were fired in a shootout caught on the bar's video surveillance system.
Police are beginning to identify those involved, but have made no arrests in that incident.
