DELTA, Ohio — Two people were killed Saturday morning when their vehicle collided with a train just east of Fulton County Road 11 in York Township.
Family members identified the victims as Chris Butler of Liberty Center and Craig Chadwick, 22, of Delta.
Mr. Butler was driving north along a private driveway that crosses the Norfolk-Southern railroad track just before 2 a.m. and failed to stop for a westbound train, according to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office and some family members.
Marlena Allwood, who lives in the house at the end of the quarter-mile driveway, said Mr. Butler and her husband were friends. Mr. Butler was likely coming to see him, as he had sometimes in the past during late evening or early morning hours, she said.
'It's a tragedy,' Ms. Allwood said, explaining that her family is used to the unusual way their gravel driveway intersects the railroad tracks. 'We know you've got to stop and look and look again.'
The crash occurred about a half-mile west of the Worthington Steel plant, midway between Delta and Wauseon.
