The City League's first and second-place teams were crowned Blade poll champions in their respective divisions.

Whitmer (9-1), which won the CL title, collects the trophy in Division I, while runner-up Central Catholic (8-2) takes the hardware in Division II.

Rounding out the list of Blade poll champs are the Blade area's only two unbeaten teams. Both won in combined divisions, something new to the Blade poll this year.

Three-time defending Suburban Lakes League champion Genoa (10-0) captured the crown in the combined Division III-VI poll, while eight-time defending Northwest Ohio Athletic League champion Patrick Henry (10-0) took the title in Division V-VI.

Fourth-year coach Joe Palka's Whitmer Panthers were one of four City League teams to post 6-1 league records, losing only to St. Francis de Sales (9-1) by a 21-17 count on Oct. 2. The Panthers won their first City football title since joining the league in 2003, thanks in large part to their 14-7 win over four-time defending champion Central on Oct. 16.

Whitmer finished with 36 CL standings points to 31 for Central, 28 for St. Francis, and 24 for Rogers, the other 6-1 finishers.

Tenth-year Central coach Greg Dempsey's Irish, who were ranked No. 12 in the final state poll, edged fifth-ranked St. Francis in the Blade's rankings based on their 10-0 win over the Knights on Oct. 9.

St. Francis ends at No. 2 in Division II, one spot above Northern Lakes League co-champion Maumee (9-1, 6-1 NLL). Rogers took the No. 4 slot in D-II.

NLL co-champion Southview (7-3, 6-1), which won a D-II state championship last season, moved up to Division I this year, and ended up No. 2 behind Whitmer in the Blade ratings.

Genoa, ranked No. 4 in the final Division IV state poll, was a juggernaut this season, recording seven shutouts and outscoring its opposition 537 to 24. Third-year Genoa coach Mike Vicars' Comets also captured Blade D-IV titles in 2007 and 2008.

Genoa, who advanced to the state semifinals a year ago, has won 29 consecutive regular-season games.

Napoleon (8-2), which shared the Greater Buckeye Conference title with Findlay and Sandusky, and ended at No. 9 in the final D-III state poll, ends at
No. 2 behind Genoa in the Division III-IV rankings.

Patrick Henry's scoring numbers were not as decisive as Genoa's, but 19th-year coach Bill Inselmann's Patriots were similarly dominant on the field this season, outscoring foes 429-102 in rolling to a second straight 10-0 regular season.

The Pats, ranked No. 1 in the D-V state poll, took the Blade's V-VI title ahead of No. 2 Fremont St. Joe (9-1). The Crimson Streaks, a D-VI team, used a 3-0 overtime win last Friday at Carey to gain a share of the Midland Athletic League championship with Carey, which was ranked No. 8 in the final D-VI state poll.
