U.S. indicts Toledo felon over firearm possession
A Toledo man who last year was acquitted in a 1995 murder was indicted by a federal grand jury this week for being a felon in possession of a firearm after he was arrested in Lima.
Dean Randleman, 55, was arrested Sept. 5 by Lima police officers responding to a call of a burglary.
According to federal court records, he was carrying a 9mm pistol at the time of his arrest.
After learning Randleman had served prison sentences for armed robbery, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault, federal agents proceeded to charge him criminally, Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Weldon said.
The felon in possession charge carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.
Because of his criminal history, Randleman may be eligible for the armed career criminal enhancement and so faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
Charged in the 1995 strangulation death of a woman whose body was found in a North Toledo park, Randleman was found not guilty of murder Dec. 4 after a three-day trial before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Charles Doneghy.
