The Wood County Health Department has received several thousand H1N1 vaccination doses in recent days, but only a few hundred filtered into its Toledo-Lucas County counterpart yesterday.
Part of the reason the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department didn't get as many H1N1 doses this week, however, is that some went to private doctors, said Dr. David Grossman, health commissioner.
Getting more H1N1 vaccine into doctors' hands is good because they will be able to inoculate their patients, but it could cause shortages this week at health department clinics, Dr. Grossman said.
"We didn't get near what we were expecting for the health department," he said.
Still, the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department hopes to hold a clinic this weekend in either Toledo Public Schools or locations that would serve many of the district's students, Dr. Grossman said. This week, the health department is holding H1N1 immunization clinics in several Lucas County districts and schools, including Washington Local, Ottawa Hills, and St. Francis.
And it is holding H1N1 vaccination clinics today and tomorrow at the main Toledo-Lucas County Public Library downtown. The clinics, however, are only for pregnant women and for children age 6 months to 36 months, and they will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at the Main Library, 325 North Michigan St.The Wood County Health Department, meanwhile, is holding an H1N1 vaccination clinic from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the Huntington Building at Bowling Green State University, 1851 North Research Drive, Bowling Green. All high-priority groups will be inoculated at the Wood County clinic - pregnant women, those aged 6 months to 24 years, those living with or caring for infants younger than 6 months, and those aged 25 to 64 with chronic medical conditions, although the health department doesn't have much of the nasal-mist form of the vaccine, said Pat Snyder, public information officer. "We do not anticipate running out of the vaccine," she said.
Other upcoming clinics for high-risk individuals include:
•Fulton County Health Department, tomorrow at the health department, 606 South Shoop Ave., Wauseon. Must call 419-337-0915 for an appointment.
•Monroe County Health Department, noon to 6 p.m. today at Monroe Bank & Trust Expo Building on Monroe County Fairgrounds, 3775 South Custer Rd., Monroe.

The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department plans a second round of H1N1 immunizations from 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 2 in Coy Elementary School's library and music room in Oregon. The clinic is for children age 9 or younger who need a second dose. They must be accompanied by parents with completed consent forms.
