Musica Antigua de Toledo celebrates 30 years of music
Musica Antigua de Toledo, the early music consort, will celebrate its 30th anniversary this weekend with the first concert of its 2009-2010 season. Sounds from the North Countries, Early Music of the Netherlands and Germany, will be presented at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in St. Andrew’s Methodist Church, 3620 Heatherdowns.
Founded by performer and University of Toledo music faculty member Alice Neff Petersen in 1979, the 12-member group specializes in pre-1750 music played on historical instruments. Music from Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Colonial eras is performed on viols, lutes, rebecs, recorders, harps, and harpsichords, as well as voice by Petersen, Barbara Neff Craig, Andrea Kissell, David C. Nelson — all long-time members — plus Carol Goodman, Sandra Kellogg, John Greenfield, Donald Jackson, and Andrew Phillips.
The new series, subtitled “The Journey Continues,” will include a program of Baroque music at 3:30 p.m. March 21 at the UT Center for the Performing Arts Recital Hall, and early music of Spain and Italy at 3:30 p.m. May 16 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 915 North Reynolds Rd.
