Valentine presenting a musical time machine

Want to fast forward through a century of Broadway hits in a few hours with the help of five top theater stars and an all-star New York band?

The time machine will be humming along with Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway, a musical take-off of Broadway’s most celebrated shows, at 8 tonight in the Valentine Theatre, 400 North Superior St.

The revue re-creates moments from Broadway’s past with the stars of such shows as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Jekyll & Hyde.

Neil Berg the composer/lyricist of the hit off-Broadway musical The Prince and the Pauper, which ran for two years at the Lamb’s Theater in New York City.

Starring in tonight’s production are Broadway actors Rita Harvey, Raymond Jaramillo McLeod, Carter Calvert, Danny Zolli, and Craig Schulman.

Tickets for the performance are $33 to $55 and may be purchased by phone at 419-242-2787 or at www.valentinetheatre.com.

Owens production

Also tonight will be the debut of the Owens Community College student presentation of Craig Wright’s Recent Tragic Events.

The drama tells the story of Andrew and Waverly, who decide to spend their prearranged blind date at Waverly’s apartment on Sept. 12, 2001. Waverly has been unable to contact her twin sister, Wendy, who lives in New York City and may or may not have been in the World Trade Center when it was attacked.

The production is directed by Owens instructor of fine and performing Arts Jeremy Meier. Owens student Matt Cooper of Defiance will serve as assistant director.

The cast includes Jessica Kraus, Anthony Hunter, and Jon Masters of Toledo, Jeremy Wilkes of Oregon, and Kala Smith of North Baltimore.

“Recent Tragic Events” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. today-Saturday and at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg. Due to strong language, the performance is recommended for mature audiences.

Tickets are $12 for the general public and $8 for Owens students and employees. Information: www.owens.edu or the box office at 567-661-2787.
