Farmers union official’s sentencing postponed
OTTAWA, Ohio — Sentencing for the former secretary-treasurer of the Ohio Farmers Union, who admitted to stealing approximately $251,000 from the organization, has been postponed until February.
Kathy Beutler of Columbus Grove, Ohio, whose husband, James Beutler is Putnam County sheriff, is expected to be sentenced in Putnam County Common Pleas Court Feb. 22 for aggravated theft, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Beutler pleaded guilty Sept. 23 to a bill of information charging her with making 86 unauthorized electronic transfers totaling between $100,000 and $500,000 of Ohio Farmers Union payroll account funds to her private checking account between April, 2005, and May, 2009.
She had been scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 1, but in a motion filed yesterday, the farmers union said it needed additional time to complete a forensic audit that would determine its total monetary loss.
